Manuela Galimberti

Manuela Galimberti was born in Milan in 1962. After moving to Rome, she studied at the State Institute for Cinematography and Television, where she attended the course of stage design. When she was 18, she moved to Barcelona, Spain, where she participated in a course in Titeres (Puppets), and thus her career as an artist-artisan began. Back in Italy, she elaborated on a new expressive form: the composition of a "collage picture" by using very different materials: scraps of fabrics and photos, metal fragments, and natural elements. At the end of the 90's she exhibited her works during the historical summer event "Invitation to Reading," which took place in the evocative setting of the gardens of Castel Sant'Angelo in Rome, and she took part in several artistic events organized by the municipalities of Frascati and Grottaferrata. The Catalan experience, the profound contact with Gaudi's work, is still an open chapter of her artistic story. Indeed, Manuela has enhanced her knowledge and research, going beyond the two-dimensional work and, thanks to the refined technique achieved by collaborating with the prestigious studio of Croce Brothers in Milan, she has reached the three-dimensional mosaic that she shapes by using fragmented ceramics.

In 2001, therefore, she designed and created the mosaics of Villa Solaro with outdoor space conceived in a sculptural curvilinear form and structured by a flow of benches based on the model of the "balustrades-panches" of the famous Park Güell in Barcelona. The use of a peculiar coating in ceramic material to evoke the dreamlike atmosphere is combined with a less abstract theme: flowers and the terrific mountain landscape enjoyable from the benches. Manuela Galimberti never stops exploring in all directions the versatility of the mosaic technique and applying it in different contexts. She interprets the forms of nature, the trees, and the marine landscape by composing two wall mosaics for an environment entirely dedicated to relaxation, where she represents the four primordial elements (air, water, earth, and fire) within the geometric space of the frame. She designs exhibition clothes-mosaics for a fashion atelier. She decorates a bench by the pool, with a marine landscape in a villa in Antigua as well as she creates a semicircular bench with a large surface area, with floral and landscape motifs in a villa on the Mediterranean coast.

In October 2009, she attended "arTen 09", a group exhibition of ten artists organized under the patronage of the municipality of Ciampino. Manuela's mosaics live and give life to public spaces as well as private houses all around Italy. After moving to Pesaro, she collaborated with the municipality for the embellishment of a public garden by covering three modules composed of a table and cement seats, with settlements called chess, water and roses. She also covered with a naturalistic subject called "Sun," a table with chairs located in the public garden inside the ancient walls of the small town of Candelara. She has also created a collection of wrought iron tables and ceramic mosaic with unique shapes: spiral and snake - triangular in shape and - moon and tree - semi-spherical. Recently she has designed and produced some sets for a film event allowing herself a pleasant break and a return to the origins.
