Antonella Romano, lives and works in Naples. Her first expressive form is theatre that has motivated her towards a constant research and has made her search path vital, pushing her to another expressive form: visual art.
From her heart to her hands, she embroiders kilometers of iron wire, following a slow and hard-working ritual. Through a challenging and thorough work, she molds light and delicate figures full of meaning and significance.
Antonella Romano
Her style is unique and, by now, it’s become a skillful technique that leads her to reflection and gets her in deep touch with her mind and her soul.
Her plots are the result of her knowledge, her experience of life, her cryptic and evident thoughts. All her sculptures have gone through several stages of her soul and feelings.
The main themes of Antonella Romano’s artworks are the return to primordial essence, to the truly free instinct to express and feel.
Her spheres are inspired by the shamanic recapitulation, which involves enumerating and then removing the stored - both physically and energetically - consequences over a lifetime. They are spun iron bubbles holding her life’s transitional objects. The sphere refers to protection, but also to a cage and to death, that is something to get rid of and to deal with ever.
The child bride - A touching and refined tribute dedicated to all child brides all over the world. The little red shoes into a sphere represent the hidden or evident slavery that too many women still suffer today.
Light figures - almost transparent - are made of a strong element - as iron is - to stress the power of matter and of our roots. But, at the same time and by contrast, the verticality and the way of being hung in the air of the artworks – that always push upwards – reveal a desire for emancipation and escape.
Her feminine art with female sensitivity aims to represent freedom, instinct, fluidity but also – sometimes with arrogance – the relationship with sorrow and death.
In her artworks there is a meaningful bond with nature, life and its contradictions, and fragility.
“Fragility” is indeed the title of her last project. It’s based on the fragility as human value and inherent condition in human existence. This project will be exhibit from May 28th, 2020 at Palazzo Fondi, Naples, Italy.
The siren - Freedom, instinct, fluidity, womanhood. The awareness that you have to feel free to go in order to stay.
Flowery body - Motherhood, regeneration towards a higher consciousness and rebirth, love meant as a dashing and free power that leads to a real conversion.
Pisces - The gentle fish shapes suspended from the ceiling, refer how badly we hurt our planet, our seas and ourselves. Fish mouths are gaped, they do not have a defined color, except a single species, which means to be a wish for a better world and a greater awareness and respect for nature.
Butterfly - Desire for change and delicate beauty
